Urban Axe Yard: Where Sierra Vista Comes Together to Throw Axes and Build Community
Urban Axe Yard: Where Sierra Vista Comes Together to Throw Axes and Build Community
By Joshua Mayer | November 13, 2025 | Community Spotlight
When owners Cary Brown and Vish Hirani, both military veterans, opened Urban Axe Yard, they didn't just create another entertainment venue. They built a gathering place that reflects Sierra Vista's unique character: welcoming, diverse, and deeply rooted in service and community.
Meet the Veterans Behind the Axes
Cary and Vish aren't your typical business owners. Both served in the military, and both brought that same commitment to excellence and camaraderie to Urban Axe Yard when they opened the doors.
In 2024, they were recognized with the Veterans-Owned Business Award by the City of Sierra Vista an honor that acknowledges not just their entrepreneurship, but their ongoing contribution to the community. Walk into Urban Axe Yard on any given night, and you'll see why: military members from Fort Huachuca mixing with families, first responders enjoying Thursday night specials, and healthcare workers decompressing after long shifts."We wanted to create a place where everyone feels welcome," and that philosophy shows in everything from the weekly discount nights for teachers and students to the recent Veterans Day fundraiser that brought the community together for a cause.
Six Lanes, Twelve Targets, Endless Possibilities
Urban Axe Yard isn't a one-trick venue. Sure, the axe throwing is the main draw—six ranges with twelve targets, all coached by staff who'll have you sticking bullseyes faster than you'd expect, but it's the variety that keeps people coming back.
What You'll Find:
Six axe-throwing ranges with professional coaching
Full bar with craft beer, cider, and cocktails
Pool tables and televised sports for casual hangs
VIP party room for private events
Pricing is straightforward and accessible: $25 per hour for axe throwing, with escape rooms starting at the same rate. It's affordable enough for regular visits but unique enough to feel special every time.
A Week at Urban Axe Yard: Something for Everyone
One of the best things Cary and Vish did was create a weekly rhythm that serves different communities on different nights:
Mondays: Music Bingo at 6 p.m. rolls into Karaoke Night at 7:30 p.m., with service industry discounts and $1 off drafts.
Tuesdays: Healthcare workers get 30% off escape rooms and axe throwing, plus bottle and can specials, a well-deserved midweek break.
Wednesdays: Community Night features 40% off activities, 20% off drinks, and bring-your-own-food options, perfect for families and groups.
Thursdays: Military, veterans, law enforcement, Border Patrol, first responders, and EMS/EMT personnel receive drink discounts venue-wide.
Fridays & Saturdays: Beer bucket specials dominate, with Saturdays adding $4 hard seltzers and iced teas for easy weekend vibes.
Sundays: Family day - kids under 12 throw for half price from noon to 4 p.m., plus soft drink discounts.
And throughout the week, teachers and students enjoy ongoing 20% discounts on escape rooms and axe throwing.
More Than Entertainment: Community Impact
Urban Axe Yard regularly steps up for Sierra Vista. They're part of the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive alongside other local favorites like The Horned Toad, JR's Bar, and High Heat Sports Grill, collecting non-perishable food for families in need through November 24th.
They hosted a Veterans Day fundraiser earlier this month, bringing the community together to honor service members while raising money for local causes. And their Friendsgiving Karaoke Night on November 26th combines music, prizes, turkey raffles, and drink specials, an event that's equal parts fun and fellowship.
Recent additions to their event calendar include live music nights with local bands like RockUS and Nightlife Rocks the Yard, trivia nights featuring 80s movie themes, and even a Youth League Tournament, the Turkey Toss Throwdown. This isn't performative charity. It's veterans helping veterans, neighbors supporting neighbors, and a business that genuinely cares about the community it serves.
